I’ve been wanting to write up an updated makeup routine for months, seeing as my original one was one of my first posts on this blog. But my problem was, while the products I used on a day to day basis had changed over time, the routine was pretty much the same - a quick slap of tinted moisturizer, a wash of cream eyeshadow, lashings of mascara, and done. This quick routine was my constant go-to because it was always so difficult for me to pluck up the motivation to get out of bed and get ready for the day at 6am. But lately I’ve become a bit more of an early riser, probably thanks to the fact that I keep falling asleep between 9 and 10 every night, and I’ve been putting a little more effort into my makeup every day. It’s made me feel so much more put together and ready for the day, and I’ve noticed I’ve been feeling more confident as well.
After washing my face in the morning, I always use my Glossier Priming Moisturizer - it’s become my favorite moisturizer for daytime because it’s lightweight yet still hydrating, and it gives the most amazing glow without looking greasy. On top of that I’ll add the Glossier Perfecting Skin Tint if I’m having a good skin day, or the NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer if it’s a not-so-good skin day (I still can't handle the feeling of a heavy base while at work). Both leave my skin looking radiant and healthy, which is always the look I’m going for. If I have any spots or redness that need covering up, I’ll do so with my NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer, and I cover up my dark circles with the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser.
I go on to my eyes next, starting with eyebrows. I’ve been using the Anastasia Dipbrow Pomade every day, and I’ve gotten the hang of it so much now that it takes the same amount of time as using the Brow Wiz. For eyeshadow, I typically have 3 go-tos: the Tartelette Matte Eyeshadow Palette for a quick lid color and crease color (see my review here), a single MAC eyeshadow that blends out to a different color in the crease as my quicker option (check out the three I have here), and the By Terry Ombre Blackstar in Misty Rock scribbled on and blended in with my finger as the quickest option. I usually don’t do much liner, just a quick smudge of anything I have lying around into my lash line. For mascara I’ve been alternating between my two favorites: the L’Oreal Miss Manga and the Maybelline Lash Sensational (both waterproof, of course).
I haven’t been using blush really because my cheeks tend to get red on their own throughout the day, but lately I haven’t been leaving the house without using my Anastasia Contour Kit. I’m totally in love with it (see my rave review here). For every day, I just quickly blend Fawn (middle contour color) underneath my cheekbones and on my temples and dust Sand (the highlight color with shimmer) on the tops of my cheekbones. For lips, I’ve still been going for that neutral lip (I have a post coming up about some new favorites), using something like the Revlon ColorBurst Matte Balm in Sultry or the Nyx Soft Matte Lip Cream in Cannes.
Like I said above, spending a little extra time on my makeup in the morning makes me feel more put together and ready for the day, so I’ve been sticking to this routine for the most part. What are your everyday staples?
